Agricultural Cadet Programmes & Apprenticeships
If you’re keen to get hands-on experience working the land, cadet programmes are a great way to start your journey. These on-farm training opportunities combine practical skills with structured learning.
See the links below for programmes offering immersive experiences in sheep, beef, and dairy farming; this is not an exclusive list:
- Pāmu Apprenticeship Scheme – Offers a structured 3-year pathway into dairy and livestock farming.
- Primary ITO Apprenticeships – Offers NZ Apprenticeships in Agriculture (Dairy Farming). Programmes range from 20 to 40 months and include Level 3 and 4 qualifications.
- Growing Future Farmers – A two-year programme combining on-farm training with NZQA-accredited learning. Available in 10 regions across NZ
- Otiwhiti Station Land Based Training – Offers hill country sheep and cattle training with a Level 4 qualification
- Whangārei A&P Farm Intern Programme – A free two-year internship with NZ Certificate in Agriculture Levels 3 and 4
- Moeangiangi Station – Offers a unique two-year cadet programme that combines hands-on hill country farming and livestock finishing with leadership development and NZQA-accredited qualifications, preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders through practical experience, teamwork, and industry best practice.
